Alaska Education
Programs and Wilderness Skills Programs...
The following Alaskan organizations provide a wide range of outdoor
educational and wilderness skills learning opportunities. In outdoor
education, the emphasis for the subject of learning is placed on relations
involving people and natural resources. Wilderness skills programs
teach a variety of techniques and environmentally appropriate methods
while experiencing the wilderness of Alaska. Each program is unique
and offers a range of activities coupled with educational programs.
Wilderness study programs include classes on sea kayaking, mountaineering,
river rafting, glacier travel and crevasses rescue, fly-fishing
and wildflower identification. Winter classes are also offered and
include nordic and alpine skiing, winter survival, ice climbing,
dog mushing and skijoring.
